Broken Social Scene Story Award Longlist

Ten years ago, Canadian indie darlings Broken Social Scene released their first album, You Forgot It In People. A decade later and Canada’s writers have the chance to re-interpret the album’s thirteen songs. My take on “I’m Still Your Fag” was longlisted for the Broken Social Scene Short Story contest, sponsored by respected Canadian indie press House of Anansi.

The challenge: choose one of the album’s songs and write a story based on the lyrics. Thirteen finalists (one per song) will be chosen later in May to be part of an e-book called The Broken Social Scene Story Project: Short Works Inspired by You Forgot It In People. Three winners will get to hang with band members at the Arts & Crafts Field Trip music festival in June as part of a VIP Prize Package.

My take on “I’m Still Your Fag” is in good company with well-known Canadian novelist Zoe Whittall and fiction writer David Tasker. You can read more here.
