Introducing Quick Hits
DOES YOUR SMALL writing PROJECT need some love?
One of the things I’ve heard often from writers is that they are looking for help on a smaller project. Perhaps a short story or nonfiction piece you’d like to polish up to send to a contest, or get ready for submission to a journal or magazine. Or maybe you have a larger project in the works, but you need help with just an excerpt or smaller section.
I’ve created Quick Hits for writers like you. Quick Hits allows us to work together on a smaller writing project—under 25 pages.
Here’s how it works. If we agree to work together, you’ll send me your writing project of under 25 pages. In 2-4 weeks time (depending on scheduling), I’ll return your short manuscript with detailed notes and a two-page summary of suggestions to improve the piece. As with Manuscript Tune-Up (my package service for larger manuscripts), I’ll look at all the major crafts elements of your work—structure, character, voice, action and plot, setting, and point of view—with an aim of helping you shape the piece into its finest form. For a small additional fee, we can also schedule time for a chat to answer your questions about my notes and the piece.

About Me
For over fifteen years I’ve worked as a communications professional in a range of capacities—academic writing, project development, ghostwriting, communication planning, and public relations. I’ve edited some of Canada’s leading writers and I’ve worked extensively with those coming to the page for the first time, driven by a story they need to tell. I coach and mentor emerging writers and professionals embarking on short- and long-term writing and communication projects. Currently I focus my practise on supporting emerging and professional writers at any stage of a writing project—from conception to realization, or the messy space in between.
If you’re looking for one-on-one consulting or coaching, check out the Coaching section of the website.

Trevor acted as a developmental editor on one of my stories. What struck me most was not just the thoroughness of his critique, his copious notes, but the penetrating insight, the encouragement to go deeper into a piece that I thought, quite mistakenly, I understood.
