FAQS

I have never attended a yoga or writing retreat before. I’m not sure what to expect.

No prior yoga or writing experience necessary! This is a safe, supportive space for you to begin exploring gentle yoga movement as well as your creative voice. The retreat will combine optional writing workshops, yoga and meditation, wellness activities, gentle movement, and plenty of unstructured writing time in the afternoon.

What types of workshops will be held?

Movement and meditation classes are taught from a slow, integrative approach, incorporating elements of yoga, breathwork, qigong and self-massage.

The workshops are open to folks working in any genre. We’ll use writing prompts and creative exercises to bring a sense of play, curiosity, and presence to our writing. Each participant will have the chance to share a a short piece of writing and receive feedback from the instructor and the group, though this is entirely optional.

What other activities will be at the retreat?

We’ve designed the retreat to offer you what you need in the most flexible schedule possible. Yoga workshops and meditation and mindfulness activities will be offered but are optional. Participants will have the option of enjoying a full Nordic spa, receiving spa treatments, hiking nearby trails, enjoying the fitness facilities and meditation hut, or simply resting or spending hours gazing out at the ocean. Some may wish to dive deep into a writing project, other to spend time on individual yoga practices. This is your time to recharge, reconnect with your deepest self, and structure your time in a way that suits you best.

What are the benefits of a writing/yoga retreat?

For both new and experienced writers, having the opportunity to step away from the responsibilities of careers, family, and other obligations—particularly in a beautiful setting like Oceanstone—can inspire and help re-ground us in our practise and routine. For some, it’s a chance to reconnect with our practise after a prolonged absence. Others may take the opportunity to dip their toes into the creative waters for the first time, supported by the benefits of self-care practise.

What is included in the retreat price?

The retreat price covers optional writing and yoga workshops, meditation and grounding activities, four nights of accommodation, all breakfasts, a welcome reception, two gourmet group dinners, access to the onsite fitness centre and meditation hut, access to common areas for writing and yoga practise, feedback from instructors, and future discounts on One Life and Yoga with Joshua retreats, workshops, and courses. See What’s Included for more information.

What’s not included in the price?

The retreat cost includes all breakfasts, two group dinners, and the group welcome reception. Other meal costs and alcohol are the responsibility of retreat participants. There are multiple dining options onsite and in the nearby area and all accommodations have access to kitchen facilities if you prefer to prepare your own food.

Spa treatments (including access to the onsite Nordic spa) are also extra and must be booked in advance.

What are some of the optional activities?

It’s up to you! Long walks along the beach, hiking world-famous coastal trails, visiting local antique shops and artisans, kayaking, or napping. Some participants may wish to indulge in Oceanstone’s wide array of body, spa, and wellness treatments.
